RE-OPENING DURING CORONAVIRUS

We are pleased to announce that we have re-opened our Scarborough branch on a part-time basis;

10am-4pm Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays when possible and by appointment only. If you need to get in touch outside of these times, please email info@charlwoodhearing.co.uk.

We are following strict government and industry guidance regarding social distancing, use of ppe and cleaning and disinfecting all areas on a regular basis and between appointments. Our primary purpose is to keep all our customers and staff safe.

If you are having a problem with your ears, your hearing or your hearing aids please do call us or email first. This way we can determine whether we can solve your problem remotely and without the need for a face to face appointment. We will discuss the issue in detail and move forward in the most appropriate way. We are currently not booking routine check up appointments, but if you are having a particular problem or your hearing aids need some fine tuning then we would be happy to see you.

If you do require an appointment we will need you to answer a number of questions regarding your current health and relating to coronavirus symptoms. Provided you and the rest of your household are in good health we can then take you through our current policies with regards to COVID-19 including our social distant measures in place and our use of PPE equipment.

We are only seeing people in branch by appointment. If you turn up at the premises without an appointment you may not be allowed inside. We are also leaving plenty of time in between appointments to clean and disinfect all appropriate areas and equipment.

At present we can only book appointments at our main Scarborough branch or our Helmsley clinic. We are hoping to be up and running at Visioncare Optometry in Acomb, York within the next couple of weeks or so. Hunmanby and Knaresborough are unlikely to be open for appointments in the near future. Our Harrogate clinic is also not currently running but we hope to be offering appointments there again soon.

Our home visit service is unfortunately also on hold for the moment except for urgent cases.

We will keep you updated on any changes of service in the coming months. Thank you for your patience during this period.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this temporary closure causes but our priority as always is to keep all our staff and customers safe. CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

COVID-19: Business as usual

We would like to reassure all of our customers that we are here for you and shall continue to act to ensure the highest levels of health and the safety of our patients and employees. Charlwood Hearing Care will remain open and honour all appointments and continue to book appointments in the coming weeks. All of our services are available as usual in person, online and via telephone. We have a network of centres available across North Yorkshire for you to see us for an appointment, or alternatively we are happy to come and visit you at home.

What are we doing?
We are constantly monitoring Government and Public Health England advice and will amend our practices accordingly. We are fully compliant with our government regulator the HCPC and its clinical code of practice. We are no longer booking appointments back to back, but with a gap in-between to ensure customers are not in direct contact with other customers in the reception area. We have adopted a “no handshake” policy. We have put additional systems in place to help minimise the risk of spreading the virus. These measures are in addition to our existing priorities to uphold the highest standards of health and hygiene:
  • First thing every morning and throughout the day, we are disinfecting all surfaces – including chairs, door handles etc.
  • Hand sanitiser is available in reception and all clients are asked to use this as soon as they come into the branch. There is also hand gel available in the consulting room as well as sterile wipes.
  • All surfaces in the consulting room are disinfected after every client.
  • All equipment such as headphones are disinfected before and after each use.
  • During microsuction appointments Neil will be wearing sterile gloves and a face mask.
  • We use sterile, single-use disposable products where possible.
  • We practice the highest standard of professional clinical hygiene.

How can you help?
Please do not attend an appointment if you have a temperature, a cough or if you know that you’ve been in contact with someone who has coronavirus or might have been in contact with someone infected. If you are showing any signs of symptoms, please call us and re-book your appointment for a later date, just as we will do for you if one of us falls ill. Please call us on 01723 369505. If your hearing aid isn’t working please feel free to send it to us by post. If you are having to self-isolate and are running low on batteries or accessories then call us or email info@charlwoodhearing.co.uk and we can post some to you.

Extra support for our clients
During the coronavirus outbreak, it is vital that friends, families and communities do everything they can to support each other. And we include ourselves in that. We’re a small, family-owned business in the heart of our community and we want to do what we can to help. If you’re a client of ours and you need support, please call us on 01723 369505. We’ll do all that we can to help.

Why Come To Charlwood Hearing Care?

The internet can be a minefield of information (and mis-information) and somehow you've managed to find our website in your search for a hearing care provider, but why should you end your search here? The clear answer is that we are completely independent, and independent companies such as us consistently top The Which? Report into the best places to purchase hearing aids from compared with the larger national companies. This is partly because we offer a wider range of hearing aids and can supply products for any manufacturer. National chains typically have supply agreements with, or in some cases are partly owned by, certain manufacturers. Boots Hearingcare for example are part owned by the company who make Phonak hearing aids, so around 90% of their customers are fitted with Phonak devices.

Independent companies are also rated better for overall value for money. This doesn't mean we are cheaper than national companies, in fact hearing aid prices are typically higher, but the support and aftercare service we offer, the product range we have, and our experience in matching the most appropriate hearing aid solution to an individual's hearing loss, lifestyle, budget and style preferences mean that overall customer satisfaction tends to be higher.

Even if you've decided to seek independent advice why should you choose Charlwood Hearing Care instead of another independent company? The answer is because we are truly independent. There are six major hearing aid manufacturers and a handful of smaller ones. In 2019 we fitted hearing aids from nine different manufacturers. You will struggle to find that level of independence anywhere, let alone in North Yorkshire. Other independents may only work with 3 or 4 companies, sometimes less. Their staff may have previously worked for a national company so they fit those hearing aids they're already familiar with. We are familiar with the technology, features, strengths and weaknesses of all the major manufacturers and most of the smaller ones as well. Our advice is completely independent and without bias. Where there are a number of suitable options for you we will clearly explain the differences so you can make an informed choice about the hearing aids you wear. Our 60 day no obligation trials ensure you are completely satisfied with the outcome.

Of course these aren't the only reasons to end your search for a hearing care provider by booking an appointment with us, but when considering taking such an important step in your hearing journey, they are perhaps the most important reasons to come and talk to us.

These are all the manufacturers we fitted in 2019;
