Scarborough Clinic Refurbishment

During the Summer we undertook a major refurbishment of our Scarborough office. We worked with Ultimate Interiors based in Cross Hills, West Yorkshire to design and create a smart, modern practice that offers our customers the hearing care experience they deserve. In July we closed the premises for four weeks to undertake the work. We temporarily moved our appointments to a room at The Health and Wellness Falgrave Clinic on Falsgrave Road in Scarborough. Thank you to Rita and the other health care practitioners for looking after us and our customers during these four weeks.

We moved back into our Castle Road premises in the middle of August and have been delighted with the transformation. As well as our new interior, we have invested in a new and more spacious sound proof booth for carrying out hearing tests, as well as new testing equipment. The whole clinic has had an upgrade.

The pictures below show the story of the refurbishment project from before to during and after.

For the next few weeks, until 20th July, our Scarborough clinic has temprorarily relocated to Falsgrave Road while we carry out refurbishment work on our Castle Road office. We will be offering appointments from a room in the Health and Wellness Falsgrave Clinic, 65 Falsgrave Road, Scarborough, YO12 5EA. This is located just in front of Sainsburys and parking is available either on Falsgrave Road for an hour (disc parking), or you can park in Sainsburys car park and take the short walk through the cut-through onto Falsgrave Road. Then just turn left and the clinic is two doors down.

To arrange an appointment with us during this period just call our usual number 01723 369505 and Julie or Helen will be happy to arrange it for you.

Wax Removal Service Expansion

We've recently made a few changes to expand our long established wax removal service. For the last eight years we've been using microsuction to remove ear wax. Our first recent change is an upgrade to our equipment. We now have a hospital standard CA-MI Hospivac 400 suction machine which provides more powerful (but still very safe) suction compared with our old portable unit. This will mean more wax cleared successfully at the first attempt. It's a much quieter machine and provides a better customer experience. We've also acquired a new comfortable treatment chair.

Our second major improvement to our service is the addition of a new Guardian Projet 101 Ear Irrigator. This enables us to offer not just microsuction and dry removal which are our well established methods, but also now safe irrigation. This will allow us to remove the very soft, deep and sticky types of wax which often prove difficult to completely clear using suction alone. Again this will improve our single appointment success rate.

Finally, to keep up with increased demand for wax removal, we've recruited Jayne Dixon, a fully qualified nurse, to carry out the procedure. This enables us to offer wax removal appointments at our Scarborough branch five days a week, Monday-Friday 9-5.

All these changes means we have affirmed our status as the Yorkshire Coast's premier centre for ear wax removal. We use the latest state of the art technology, including our high definition wireless video otoscope to show you precisely how clean we've been able to get your ears. If you're struggling with blocked ears then contact us to arrange an appointment and we can offer instant relief.

We are pleased to announce that we have re-opened our Scarborough branch on a part-time basis;

10am-4pm Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays when possible and by appointment only. If you need to get in touch outside of these times, please email

We are following strict government and industry guidance regarding social distancing, use of ppe and cleaning and disinfecting all areas on a regular basis and between appointments. Our primary purpose is to keep all our customers and staff safe.

If you are having a problem with your ears, your hearing or your hearing aids please do call us or email first. This way we can determine whether we can solve your problem remotely and without the need for a face to face appointment. We will discuss the issue in detail and move forward in the most appropriate way. We are currently not booking routine check up appointments, but if you are having a particular problem or your hearing aids need some fine tuning then we would be happy to see you.

If you do require an appointment we will need you to answer a number of questions regarding your current health and relating to coronavirus symptoms. Provided you and the rest of your household are in good health we can then take you through our current policies with regards to COVID-19 including our social distant measures in place and our use of PPE equipment.

We are only seeing people in branch by appointment. If you turn up at the premises without an appointment you may not be allowed inside. We are also leaving plenty of time in between appointments to clean and disinfect all appropriate areas and equipment.

At present we can only book appointments at our main Scarborough branch or our Helmsley clinic. We are hoping to be up and running at Visioncare Optometry in Acomb, York within the next couple of weeks or so. Hunmanby and Knaresborough are unlikely to be open for appointments in the near future. Our Harrogate clinic is also not currently running but we hope to be offering appointments there again soon.

Our home visit service is unfortunately also on hold for the moment except for urgent cases.

We will keep you updated on any changes of service in the coming months. Thank you for your patience during this period.
